基隆廟口在地人推薦必吃
Keelung Miaokou: A Must-Eat Dish Recommended by Locals

Watching people melt into puddles of sweat while waiting 45 minutes for a single bowl of braised pork rice always makes me sigh. Your vacation time is way too valuable to burn on a line that barely moves.

I have lived in Keelung for 30 years. I know every back alley, every ventilation draft, and every stall actually worth your hard-earned cash.

Whether you are stepping off a cruise ship at Keelung Port or taking the 40-minute train up from Taipei, ditch the tourist traps. Here is your battle-tested survival guide: seven legendary spots, a zero-line walking route, and foolproof point-and-order cards in traditional Chinese.

3 Golden Rules to Survive Keelung Night Market

  1. Cash is King (Small Bills Only): Roughly 99% of night market stalls do not accept Apple Pay or credit cards. Stop by a convenience store ATM outside the market beforehand to break large banknotes into NT$100 bills and NT$50 coins.
  2. Bookmark the Restroom Map Before You Eat: Handwashing sinks and clean restrooms are notoriously hard to find once you are deep in the crowds. Save this clean restroom map before diving into the food: https://buyfunlife.com/keelung-restroom-map/
  3. Use the Point-and-Order Cards: Night markets are loud, chaotic, and English is rarely spoken behind the sizzling woks. Don’t shout. Simply screenshot the Chinese text cards below, show your screen to the vendor, and hold up your fingers for how many you want.

The Local Walking Route: 7 High-Hit Street Eats

Stop 01: Zhen Ji Braised Eel (The AC Sanctuary)

Zhenji Braised Eel: Three of My Favorites

• Point-and-Order Card: 滷肉飯 &肉羹湯

• Location: No. 24, Aisi Rd. (Right next to San Xiong Di Douhua)
• Hours: 10:30 – 22:30

• Insider Strategy: Do not start your crawl out on the open street. Zhen Ji features a clean, air-conditioned indoor counter where you can sit down and reset. The neon sign says eel, but skip it—picking tiny bones out in a crowd is annoying.

Order like a local: Braised Pork Rice (Lu Rou Fan) with Pork Thick Soup (Rou Geng Tang). The pork belly melts into a savory, glossy glaze over chewy rice, and the soup is tender and peppery. The entire combo costs exactly one red NT$100 bill.

辣椒爆幹辣要小心
The chili is fucking spicy, watch out.

Stop 02: Stall 49 — The Taiwanese Pork Belly Burger (Gua Bao)

• Point-and-Order Card: 刈包一個,半肥半瘦 不要香菜 (Show this line only if you dislike cilantro)

• Location: Stall 49, Ren 3rd Rd.
• Hours: 09:00 – 02:00

• Insider Strategy: Always order takeout; never waste time waiting for the cramped wooden stools. The steamed lotus-leaf bun is cloud-soft, packed with melt-in-your-mouth braised pork belly, tangy pickled greens, and sweet peanut powder.

Seating is very limited at the Keelung Miaokou pork belly bao stall.

Veteran hack: Grab your Gua Bao, step directly to the sausage stand next door, buy three mini charcoal-grilled sausages with raw garlic cloves, and tuck them inside your bun.

Cross the street to the drink stall “Chao Da Bei” and grab a Peanut Smoothie (Hua Sheng Bing Sha)—it tastes like rich, velvety frozen peanut brittle. By the time you walk back with your ice-cold drink, your freshly grilled, smoky, thick-cut squid will be ready.

• Location: No. 6, Aisi Rd.
• Hours: 14:30 – 22:30

• Insider Strategy: Freshly fried to order in about three minutes. The second you order, turn around and step into 50 Lan across the alley. Grab an Ice Cream Black Tea with Big Boba.

Walk back just in time to pick up your scorching-hot, ultra-crispy cutlet. Skip the generic pepper salt and go for the Lemon + Seaweed seasoning—the citrus zest completely cuts through the richness of the fried chicken.

• Point-and-Order Card: 爆漿胡椒餅一個

• Location: No. 88-1, Aisi Rd. (Corner near Chunghwa Telecom)
• Hours: 15:30 – 22:30

• Insider Strategy: Baked against the inner clay wall of a tandoor-style oven, this bun is a delicious flavor grenade.

The flaky, sesame-crusted shell acts like an insulator, meaning the bag might feel barely warm while the interior holds boiling-hot meat juices. Do not bite down hard. Nibble a tiny vent on top, blow gently to release the steam, and let it cool for a minute before diving into the peppery pork filling.

Stop 06: Stall 42 Three Sisters Pan-Fried Buns

水煎包剛出爐超級燙
The pan-fried pork buns are fresh out of the pan and boiling hot.

• Point-and-Order Card: 水煎包兩顆,加辣

• Location: Stall 42, Ren 3rd Rd.
• Hours: 16:00 – 22:30 (Closed Thursdays)

• Insider Strategy: Do not let the line scare you off; their massive cast-iron pans clear dozens of people in seconds.

排隊時請先想好數量準備好錢
Please decide your quantity and have your cash ready while waiting in line.

The skin is paper-thin with a golden, crispy lace bottom. Inside, it is stuffed entirely with sweet, juicy Taiwanese cabbage rather than heavy meat, making it the ultimate palate cleanser. Always ask for a brush of their house chili sauce.

Stop 07: Far Eastern Paopao Ice

• Point-and-Order Card: 花生泡泡冰、百香果泡泡冰

• Location: No. 5, Ren 3rd Rd.
• Hours: 10:00 – 23:00

• Insider Strategy: Skip the packed shaved ice stalls deep inside the market and walk to the outer perimeter.

Paopao Ice is hand-whipped to order until it hits a silky texture between fine shaved snow and Italian gelato. Go for Roasted Peanut or Tart Passion Fruit. Take your cup and spoon, and start walking away from the neon crowds toward the water.

Souvenir Detour: Lian Zhen Pastry Shop (For Taro Lovers)

• Point-and-Order Card: 招牌芋泥球一盒

• Location: No. 42, Ai 2nd Rd. (A 5-minute stroll from the market edge)
• Hours: 08:00 – 21:00

• Insider Strategy: Pick up a box of their famous Taro Paste Balls (Yu Ni Qiu). Made with real taro and fresh dairy, they are silky, dense, and naturally sweet without preservatives. They must stay chilled, so eat them back at your hotel tonight or pack them with cold packs.

The Harbor Finale: Sea Breeze at Maritime Plaza

When you are done eating, resist the urge to jump straight onto the train or into a taxi. Take a leisurely eight-minute flat walk down to Keelung Maritime Plaza.

Rest your arms on the wooden boardwalk railing, catch the Pacific breeze, and take in the illuminated international cruise ships docked against the dark harbor hills. The bustling market noise fades behind you, your stomach is full of authentic local food, and your wallet was traded for unforgettable memories.
